While Waiting For Your House To Sell

“I really want to go there sometime.” How often do we hear ourselves say this? Whether it’s visiting a park, a store, a coffee house, a little museum or a club that plays jazz at night, this is the perfect time — while waiting for your house to sell — to check out the local places you’ve wanted to see.

This doesn’t have to be a costly proposition either. There are many things you can do for free or for very little expense. Even if one of the places you want to visit is a boat dealership, it doesn’t mean you have to walk out with one. You’re just on a local adventure!

Once you have a buyer for your property, you’ll be too busy dealing with the logistics of packing and moving to take much time off for fun. So right now is the best time to do it.

Besides for enjoying yourself, there are a few other side benefits of playing tourist in your own town: By keeping busy doing new things, you’ll distract yourself from your home selling worries. You may also open up new opportunities for yourself by expanding your horizons. You never know who you might meet or what you’ll find out when reaching out in your current community. (Maybe someone will invite you on a boat ride?)

A friend of mine who was selling his home had always thought about getting involved in his local film school. It had crossed his mind about 350 times. However, once he got an offer on his house, he was fully occupied with moving and relocating out of the area. But to this day he says, “Why didn’t I get involved in that film school when it was in my own backyard? I missed a tremendous opportunity!”

That’s why it’s important to do these things now, while you still can. Write out a list of local places you’d like to visit and things you’d like to do. Keep the list somewhere you’ll look at it, and add on new places as you find them. Just the act of thinking about these places may inspire you to hunt for even more of them.

Consider your explorations a well-earned reward for your home selling efforts. You’ve got enough on your mind… balance it with a little fun in your own town.
