Got the Home Selling Blues? Tell Me About It!

Being a home seller isn’t easy. I don’t need to tell you. It’s a big problem right now. But what isn’t discussed much is how home sellers deal with the anxiety, frustration and uncertainty of not knowing when, and if, their homes are going to sell.

I’m surprised by how few people I see having kicking, screaming, fist-pounding, temper-tantrums in their front yards beneath their “For Sale” signs. Believe me, I wanted to do that when I couldn’t sell my house for a year!

Most people don’t show their despair on the outside though. They wait until they’re enveloped in privacy to fret, moan, pace the floors and attack the ice cream. One friend confessed she cried every night on her couch until a blessed buyer came along.

And to think that millions of people are going through this (if they aren’t walking away from their homes, that is.) It’s almost an epidemic – and there’s nowhere to turn for help.

I looked online and found support groups for practically every physical and mental condition, along with the condition’s official acronym. If you grind your teeth, you suffer from TMJ (Temporomandibular joint Syndrome.) If you can’t deal with dark winters you’ve got SAD, or Seasonal Affective Disorder. There’s even a condition called NDA which stands for “No Diagnosis of Anything.”

But, if you’re stuck with a house you can’t sell and are feeling anxious, sleepless, hopeless, out-of-control, financially-stressed and sick of constantly cleaning your room, there’s no name to describe what you’ve got. Until now: Your condition finally has a name.

It’s called Home Seller’s Blues, or HSB.

For all of you who suspect you have HSB, it is important to know you are not alone. There are millions of other good, hard-working, respectable people suffering just as you are.

And here’s more good news: Now that you know your condition’s name, you’re fully entitled to educate others about it and even use your new-found acronym at home and at cocktail parties. You can proudly stand up and say, “I’ve got HSB!”

But I want to take this further. That’s what this blog is about. It’s your place to vent, discuss and share solutions with many others in the same situation.

Here’s where you’ll find support and creative ideas posted by myself and others to cheer you on, cheer you up and possibly help you sell your home before your neighbor does.

We’ll be talking about every aspect of selling your home, including tips on how to keep your home clean the easy way, cheap ways to make your place stand out from the crowd,  and how to make sure house hunters don’t wonder into your home when you’re naked.

So join in. Tell us your symptoms of Home Seller’s Blues and we’ll work together to share solutions.
